Why Publish Old Work?

Three reasons why I am publishing my whole catalogue.

Firstly because these works reminds me of where I have been and how far I have come. When I finish publishing all of them you would be able to see how the quality and style of my work has developed over the years, to prove if you keep doing something you will get better at it over time, as simple as that.

Secondly these are all like journal entries from those years. I remember pretty well where I was in those moments and what I was going through, places, people and everything that I learned along the way.

The third one and maybe the most important reason for me is to establish the habit of making and publishing everyday. To overcome the inner critic who tells me how bad this work looks. Don’t get me wrong, I am not advocating making shit and publishing. But rather talking about the mental exercise of ignoring the critic and doing the work anyway.

Right now I am at a place in my life where I am starting fresh. It feels like I am starting from ground zero; publishing a blog and building a visual art and design portfolio. There is a lot of inner noise. But I am committed. I want to do this. I want to get really good at this craft. I need to work through this period of time to warm up, to get started. To get use to showing up everyday and making no matter how I feel about the work. Because it is only through trial and feedback that I can make better work. It is through experimentation and play that I would be able to find my voice and style.

It is only by taking action that I would be able to find the answers to all the questions and doubts. I have spent many years, researching, reading and thinking about it. It didn’t get me anywhere.

So yeah, go make stuff and publish, doesn’t matter old or new, just start moving, you will find the way.
